Beaugeste Gallery in Tianzifang: Xiao Xuan’an

"Xiao Xuan’an is a “docu-conceptual” photographer from Wuhan who used to be very famous for his performance art in the early 1990’s notably about the displaced population due to Three Gorges Dam.

His new work is more contemplative: One year after the tragic earthquake of Wenchuan, Xiao went to document the damage caused to temples and historical monuments. There he found these 800 fallen Arhats – lying strewn in the wind, left to no one’s care.

Opening reception in the presence of the artist from 3–7pm. We are sorry for the sauna heat and the mess at the entrance of Building 5. Chilled beer and white wine and soft drinks will be served!"

摄影师肖萱安的攝影作品往往结合紀實與觀念，包括行爲藝術。2009年，他去探訪地震一年后的汶川灾区，本來是為了記錄災難對文化遺產造成的损害。有一天，他偶然在两个贫困的百年寺庙的废墟裏見到遇難的八百罗汉，倒下的雕像一直在风雨中安靜地躺著。
